I love the delicate tapered fluted leg; and this is definitely one of the characteristics of Louis XVI chair.

Some footsteps I left at Versailles during my college days

way before the internet and digital camera's era ....

French Pavilion was designed by architect, A.J. Gabriel in one of my favorite styles, Neoclassicism. This was built as an escape from the formality of Versailles for Louis XV and his mistress Madam de Pompadour. But alas, Pompadour didn't get to enjoy it as she passed away before it was completed in 1769. It was Madame de Barry and Marie Antoinette got to enjoy this beautiful Pavilion.

This is indeed a miniature palace!

One could see it is symmetrical in every way!

Sculpted by Gilbert Bayes from designs by Gerald Cobb,

for the British Pavillion of the 1939 Worlds Fair.

There are 14 Grand Heraldic Panels at the New York Christie's.

The large panels depicted modeled and colored heraldic shields that were crafted to illustrate the history of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

The 14 panels convey fourteen preeminent individuals who epitomizes the importance of Great Britain's genealogy and insignias that were emblematic of each individual and family's contribution as ambassadors of Great Britain.

I revisited Frick Museum recently, and still found Fraganord's work mesmerizing and captivating.

Few works testify more powerfully to the elegance, sensuousness and delicate beauty of that lost world than “The Progress of Love,” the panels created by Jean-Honoré Fragonard for Mme du Barry, the last mistress of Louis XV.

Fragonard’s “The Progress of Love” shipped from France to London and the owner was JP Morgan. After Mr. Morgan died and the panels was first displayed at the Metropolitan Museum in 1914; Henry Clay Frick showed great interest and he bought it for $1.2 Millions and moved the panels to NYC for his new home at 5^th Avenue and 70^th street.

This would be a perfect room for afternoon tea ...

Beautiful Architectural Landmark

One of the most beautiful houses I visited in New York.

Built from 1896-1899 by architects Charles Follen McKim and Sanford White in Beaux-Arts style for Frederick W. and Louise Vanderbilt.

The interior was lavishly decorated with fine furniture and decorations; and today the Mansion still contains its original Italian and French furnishings, European tapestries and beautiful Oriental rugs. Louise Vanderbilt had her bedroom modeled after the Marie Antoinette Chamber at the Palace of Versailles.

From the mansion and grounds visitors can see fantastic views of the Hudson River, Hudson River Valley, Catskill Mountains and surrounding countryside.

The Vanderbilt Mansion was one of the most modern homes of its time as it contained indoor plumbing, a forced air central heating system and even had electricity that was generated from a hydroelectric power plant located on the property. The hydroelectric power plant was located along Crum Elbow Creek on the property so the electricity for the estate was self-supported.

What came to my mind was a treasure box

3 tablespoon butter

1 egg

¼ cups milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

½ cup all purpose flour

½ teaspoon cinnamon

¼ teaspoon nutmeg

1 ½ cup oats

½ cup raisins

¼ cup crushed almond

¼ teaspoon of baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt (optional)

Preheat oven 350 F.

Mix the melted the butter with sugar, egg, milk and vanilla.

Add the remaining ingredients; mix well.

Drop by rounded teaspoon onto greased and floured cookie sheet.

Bake at 350F for 15 -18 mins.

Makes about 2 dozen cookies.
