Felix M.Warbug House on 5th Avenue

"We used to build civilizations.
Now we build shopping malls."
- Bill Bryson
The Felix M. Warburg House is a mansion located on 1109 Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street in the Upper East Side in New York City. Today the Jewish Museum is located here.
The six-story mansion, built in 1908 to designs by the architect C.P.H. Gilbert, was constructed for the philanthropist Felix M Warburg (d.1937). The style is a revival of early French Renaissance architecture from the period Francois I. This property was nearly demolished in the early 1940s .... fortunately the eighteen-story apartment plan did not come through and  .... the original owner, Mrs Warburg donated the donated the family mansion as a permanent home for the Jewish Museum in January 1944.
