TRAVEL: Cameron Highlands/ Jim Thompson

Cameron Highlands located in Pahang, Malaysia.

The heat was unbearable last April when I was in Malaysia, my brother took me to the highlands to escape the brutal heat in the city! It is 5,000 ft (1,500 m) above sea level, thus enjoys a cool climate, with temperatures no higher than 25 °C and rarely falls below 12°C year-round.
The Highlands were named after a British colonial governor, William Cameron, who discovered the plateau during a mapping expedition in 1885. The fame of Cameron Highlands then grew during the colonial era when British planters realized the potential of its fertile mountain slopes for growing tea.
It was at Cameron Highlands that, Jim Thompson, the Thai silk king, a former US military intelligence officer, mysteriously disappeared while going for a walk on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1967. Many hypotheses have been put forward to explain his disappearance, but what actually happened to him remains a mystery.
