French Empress.

Born in Troits-Ilets, Martinique, She married Alexandre, Viscomte de Beauharnais in 1779; she became a noted Parisian socialite. Josephine survived both the execution of her husband and imprisonment during the French Revolution; she married Napolean Bonaparte in 1796, six years older than Napoleon. She became Empress of the French in 1804, but Emperor Napolean I divorced Empress Josephine in 1810 because of her inability to have children with the Emperor. She died in 1814 at Chateau de Malmaison near Paris, France. She remained popular.
