Montespan Settee is so named for Louis XIV's mistress, Athenais de Montespan, who had the first Chinoiserie-influenced interior in the Trianon de Porcelaine designed by Louis Le Vau at Versailles.
This Chinoiserie-style settee is handcrafted of solid poplar and finished in rich red Chinese lacquer. The slatted seat, resting on square legs, has x-formed sides, while the back is composed of 5 circles and 4 solid rounds. The top rail centrally curves up to also form an x. A charming addition to a covered veranda, conservatory or entrance hall.
