I stumbled into this "Ecoh House" online that you may find it is inspiring. The house is located in Ottawa, Canada, designed by Kariouk Associates. Transformed a 1924 Victorian house into a vertical loft - an open, four-storey volume reaching from the basement to the ceiling of the new roof.
The study, den and "book vault" seem to be floating high up, each 'room' is able to access all the front and the back views of the house; the house is indeed bright and airy.
